Work Your Way is our new blog series in which individuals give their honest answers about how they like to work when working remotely. From how to create and maintain a work culture when working remotely, to how they best like to work remotely, they share their insights and top tips.

David Hathiramani, CEO of Talisman shares with us his love of Slack and how Talisman is moving from remote-friendly to remote-first. Talisman provides technology to the recruitment agency market. They offer a Free Recruitment CRM, and their mission is to make Talisman agencies 5x more efficient.

What is the biggest advantage to the company of working remotely?

The biggest advantage of working remotely is the time saved in commuting. I used to travel for at least two hours every day. There are parts of commuting that I do miss - for example, the forced "unwind" periods going to and from work. Time is so important though and I do like having two extra hours each day. Another advantage is being able to be around my two small children and the being able to see them grow up.

Remote-Friendly or Remote-First?

We were remote-friendly but going forward we'll be remote-first. Our team has taken to working from home very well. We'd love to have a company get-together once the restrictions are eased - and these will undoubtedly be every six months going forwards.

How do you keep remote work visible?

Slack is very very helpful. We use the "Random" channel to keep each other amused. We use Zoom for our monthly all staff meetings. And we use video for async comms. There is a lot more video than before. I feel this is a big time saver - as people aren't wasting time in meetings. Covid-19 has forced us into these habits - but I would say these are all excellent habits that we'll maintain going forward.

Where is your favourite place to work from when working remotely?

Currently, I'm forced to work from home as all restaurants and cafe's are closed! I do like working from home though, as I have my setup sorted. I have two screens, my annual goals printed off, and my good microphone - which is the 2020 version of a suit and tie given all the Zoom!
