Aislinn Mahon, the Head of Brand at Huckletree, took the time to chat with us and gave us some great insights into what sets Huckletree Oxford Circus apart.
A lot of the feedback we have received in The Tallys 2023 nominations mentioned Huckletree Oxford Circus’ uniqueness. What do you think differentiates Huckletree Oxford Circus from other coworking spaces?
"All of our workspaces are designed for the future of working. We think of our Oxford Circus hub as a playground for inventing the future! The hub is designed to inspire creativity and productivity through the use of dichroic colours and the range of areas for collaboration and focus work throughout the hub. The most important element of any workspace is its people. There’s something really inspiring and special about being surrounded by entrepreneurially minded, creative people at Huckletree Oxford Circus. It is a space that is vibrant with conversation and connection. "
What kind of companies call Huckletree Oxford Circus their work home?
"Oxford Circus is themed around Web3 and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The space is home to innovators building products and platforms using next-generation technology and bringing people along on the journey - including SurrealDB, FivePointFive® and Women of Web3."
Tell us more about the unique design elements in Huckletree Oxford Circus that have contributed to your win for the Best Design award?
"We worked with our design partners Modus to create a unique space that reflects our brand identity whilst also meeting the needs of our members. Spanning two floors, the design of the hub manipulates colour and light to create boundaryless and visually deceptive spaces that represent the endless possibilities in our constantly evolving world. Each space challenges all five senses in a unique way, fostering a dynamic and vibrant environment that promotes inclusivity, innovation, creativity, and collaboration. The entire hub is designed to be inclusive, playful, and visually appealing while providing mental and physical space for ideating, and offering an immersive experience. On a practical level, the space also has brilliant amenities for our members including a great kitchen and refreshments areas, inspiring breakout space, communal dining, a rooftop terrace, focus booths, meeting rooms and phone booths. "
Sustainability seems to be a key aspect of your design. Can you elaborate on the sustainable practices you’ve incorporated into your workspace?
"Sustainability is a key pillar of the Huckletree model and runs through the entire business, from acquisition through to design to day-to-day operations. We gained B Corp certification earlier this year which signals our commitment towards greater accountability and continuous transparency. Bringing hubs to life in the most eco-friendly way possible, we partner with B Corp accredited developers and suppliers at the forefront of sustainable building design and operation. The opening of Oxford Circus diverted 99.1% of waste from landfill, which avoided more than 500 tonnes of CO2 compared to landfill - the equivalent of 25,000 trees needing to grow for a year to capture CO2 emissions."
During the nomination process, many of your members have pointed out that your focus on the community through members’ benefits like free breakfast and drinks is what makes Huckletree Oxford Circus feel like home. Could you tell us more about your approach to creating a workspace that balances work and play?
"Each week we run a range of social moments for our members across all of our hubs, including our Tuesday breakfasts, Thursday socials and regular wellness sessions and creative workshops. Our Community Teams host these gatherings which are designed to encourage conversation and interaction. It is very important to us that our members feel at home and have a strong sense of community and belonging. We love trying out different formats and have a few member favourites. Our quiz nights are always a winner!"
Lastly, what’s next for Huckletree? Are there any new venues opening in the near future that your members can look forward to?
"Yes - we have exciting growth and expansion happening across the next six months. Our Kensington hub opens in December and our Liverpool Street workspace in spring 2024. We’ll be announcing more hub openings soon and are also celebrating our 10th anniversary next year … watch this space! "
